We collect data on homelessness in a few ways. We manage the federally-mandated Homeless Management Information System (HMIS), which tracks data on clients utilizing shelter throughout the state. We also coordinate the Point-in-Time Count, a one-night volunteer-led census of the sheltered and unsheltered population which takes place one cold night in January each year. We also coordinate a one-week volunteer count of homeless youth around the same time each January.
