Leaders, Practitioners, and Advocates Gather to House the Most Vulnerable

Upcoming Annual Training Institute Celebrates Connecticut’s Groundbreaking Work towards Ending Homelessness

Hartford- The Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness is pleased to announce the 14th Annual Training Institute, which will take place on May 12, 2016 from 7:45 AM – 4:30 PM at the Connecticut Convention Center. The event will convene leaders and practitioners in the field of homelessness working together to end chronic homelessness in Connecticut this year.

This year’s ATI follows on the heels of national recognition last month that Connecticut was the second state in the nation to end all forms of veteran homelessness. Connecticut’s goal of ending all chronic homelessness, or the long-term homelessness of people with severe disabilities, in 2016 will be a key focus of the conference. Additional panels will cover topics including best practices to end family homelessness, address youth homelessness, retool our existing shelters to prevent more cases of homelessness and exit people to housing more quickly, and effectively using data in our efforts to end homelessness.

Keynote speakers will be Jennifer Ho, Senior Advisor for Housing and Services at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Lisa Pape, the National Director of Homeless Programs for the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Ms. Ho oversaw the creation of “Opening Doors,” the country’s revolutionary, first coordinated federal plan to end homelessness. Ms. Pape is a key leader in national efforts to end veteran homelessness.

The 14th ATI is brought to you through the generous support of Presenting Sponsors United Illuminating, Southern Connecticut Gas & Connecticut Natural Gas, subsidiary companies of UIL Holdings Corporation, and the Department of Housing.  The Connecticut State Department of Education will sponsor a track on youth homelessness, and Liberty Bank Foundation and the Department of Children and Families are workshop sponsors.  Additional sponsors include the Community Renewal Team, CT Coalition Against Domestic Violence, the Connecticut Department of Social Services, the CT Department of Veterans Affairs, Homes with Hope, and Supportive Housing Works.
